BIKE THEFT
Agitator Co op (agitatorgallery.com)

Closing reception is on February 24th, 2023

This piece took a lot of hard work, dedication, and understanding of how important alternate methods of transportation are to people in this city and how a loss of something they love, care for, and depend on can never be understood by others without the same loss.

Bike theft has been happening in the city of Chicago for over a decade - the articles intertwined with the dismembered bikes explain how the city has done little to nothing to help and how bikes can be stolen regardless of how the city is involved. The alternate name for this piece would have been "SUCKER POLES".

Write something nice to the person behind you.

These days it feels like everything is moving backwards. We are recovering from a pandemic, entering a recession, and experiencing crime increasing at much higher rates since 2019. Overall, we are just struggling, and we don’t seem to like each other right now. A lot of things are just “off”. This piece is a simple way of providing reassurance to others right now as we are experiencing anomie together. This also serves as a reminder that we can move outside ourselves and think about others just as much as we focus on ourselves. Our society has become individualistic to the point of narcissism - practicing compassion takes us out of that headspace in a way.

This piece will be installed in Agitator Gallery in the near future as a collaborative between myself and the gallery attendees. A scrapbook has been made for them and will be placed on a podium so they may line up and show some love to their neighbor.
